Kirken er sidste hvilested for bl.a.

It is burial place of e.g. Michelangelo, Macchiavelli and Galileo Galilei, who was not allowed a Christian burial until 1737, 95 years after his death, because of the Inquisition against his Copernican views.

(Johannes 19, 25-27)

is a pilgrimage church because of
eucharistic miracles
The Basilica of Saint Ambrose was first mentioned i 998. It is built on the site, where St Ambrose stayed while visiting Florence in 393.
In the Basilica two eucharistic miracles took place in 1230 and 1595. In 1230 a priest left several drops of consecrated wine in the chalice, and the next day he found coagulated, incarnated blood in the chalice. On Good Friday in 1595 several fragments of the host were undamaged in a church fire.
Casa Buonarroti & Palazzo Medici
